Musculoskeletal System,
Chronic Pain & Lyme Disease

In this course, Matthew covers the musculoskeletal system in detail as well as conditions that affect muscles, bones, and their associated structures. From there we move on to learn about the plant allies who assist in healing musculoskeletal issues. We are in a time where so many are turning to the medical community for support in managing their pain, yet Western medicine often does little or nothing to fix the underlying imbalance that is creating the pain in the first place! Matthew teaches us how to work with chronic pain in a way that not only addresses the symptoms but aims to heal the underlying imbalance in the body that is causing the pain. We also explore Lyme disease from the perspective of Western herbalism and how to bring healing to the body in cases of acute or chronic Lyme.

Matthew Wood says, “I heard several herbalists speak on pain and chronic pain issues this year and it dawned on me that I didn't use any of these remedies. A suspicion arose in my mind and I asked another herbalist I knew was talented in this field: "do you use pain relief herbs or do you simply work with the condition so the pain is relieved?" The latter, she said. That is my experience. I don't use "pain meds," I remedy the underlying condition to remove the pain. In order to work effectively in this area we need to know the structure involved and the process. Then we do something about it. Only failure leads to working with the pain receptor, not the cause.”

Note: This class is one of our earliest class offerings and may have been recorded before the Matthew Wood Institute of Herbalism was formally started. In this handful of classes, the video and audio may be sub-par. Nonetheless, we've included them so you can enjoy and gain from the information you otherwise will not find.

Lots of good information in this section. The questions from the class really pushed to make one think of different remedies and how they could work.
